Casa São Roque is not only an exhibition space for contemporary art, but also a place dedicated to artistic creation, learning and the exchange of knowledge. Located in a historic romantic-style house, restored to house contemporary art, Casa São Roque is the ideal setting for a unique educational experience.

With its Educational Service, Casa São Roque promotes a diverse program that invites audiences of all ages to explore the universe of art and the building’s rich history. With the mission of empowering children and young people by raising their awareness of art and culture, the Educational Service offers activities that go beyond simply looking at the works, giving visitors the opportunity to interact and better understand the artistic processes and the cultural context in which they are inserted.

The route, Learning through Art and Nature, is adapted to the age group of the participants. It includes a guided tour of the Fine Arts exhibition in the exhibition space, the house and its architectural and decorative features, as well as its surrounding garden. Children and young people can take part in practical activities, such as creative workshops, which encourage artistic expression and dialogue on current issues related to the contents of the exhibition on display.

‘Florescer’ is an example of an exhibition that brought together a group of works produced as part of the educational program ‘Descobrir com a Arte e Natureza’ (Discovering with Art and Nature), developed at Casa São Roque in a school environment. This was a partnership between the Municipality of Porto and Casa São Roque, in which around 400 students from Porto’s primary schools took part. Casa São Roque’s Educational Program had the collaboration of the Escola Superior de Educação (ESE) and was open to parents and family members.

The various activities and workshops we run for children and teenagers, in conjunction with schools, stimulate creativity and impact on the future of young people and their families, with a strong focus on supporting those most in need in the eastern part of the city.

Casa São Roque’s Educational Service is an opportunity to explore new ideas and expand horizons through art. In this way, Casa São Roque seeks to be close to the local community, reinforcing the importance of access to culture and art as a fundamental right.
